How this site is researched and written, and what happens when it gets something wrong.
Sourcing
Articles are researched from primary and public sources: scheme rulebooks, regulatory rulings and consultations, company publications, consultancy reports and press coverage. Every article carries its full source list, categorised by kind, and load-bearing claims are attributed to the sources that support them.
Fact and opinion
Reporting and interpretation are kept distinguishable. Where a piece takes a position on what a scheme, regulator or company has done or may do next, it is written as the author’s read, with language to match, and the sources on which the opinion is based are identified in the piece. Opinions are honestly held at the date of publication and are not statements of fact.
Independence and conflicts
Articles are written in a personal capacity. The author’s employment at Global Payments is disclosed beneath every byline, and any material employment, client, investment or other interest relevant to a specific article is disclosed with that article. No content is written on behalf of, or reviewed before publication by, any employer, client or affiliated organisation.
Corrections
Requests for correction go to corrections@thepaymentstrace.com or through the contact form, identifying the article, the passage and the basis for the correction. Material errors are corrected on the article with a dated note; minor fixes of typography or phrasing that do not change meaning are made without a note. Every article shows its publication date, and a material update adds an updated date beside it.
Right of reply
Where a piece makes a significantly adverse allegation about an identifiable person or organisation, comment is sought before publication where practicable. Organisations or individuals discussed on the site who consider a piece unfair or inaccurate can write to complaints@thepaymentstrace.com; reasonable requests receive a considered response, and where a response merits publication it is recorded with the article.
Paid content
Nothing on the site is currently paid, commissioned, sponsored or affiliated. If that ever changes, the material will say so prominently at the top of the piece, not in a footer.
